My wife and I enjoy acting and even wrote our own show called “Madam X”, in addition to acting lead roles in several local productions including “Blythe Spirit” and “California Suites”. I am married to Susan Gazda, who has a cameo appearance in the movie “Purple Rain”. I hope to someday qualify for the Boston Marathon. I enjoy running and have completed 17 marathons (and counting). The mind is an inexhaustible source of discovery and wonder. There is so much we have yet to discover about how it works and I’m constantly astounded by how much can be accomplished just by taking control of one’s mental health. I am open to nutraceuticals and very interested in nutrition, exercise, meditation and spirituality as strong components of the recovery process. With wide experience and training, I am a proponent of holistic, integrative care following a biopsychosocial model. In 2018 I attained Boards in Addiction Medicine through the American Board of Preventative Medicine and is currently the Associate Medical Director at Alea Research and Medical Director of Soberman’s Estate. In 2001, my family and I moved to Arizona where I have continued a varied practice and professional life. I moved to Raleigh-Durham in 1997 and participated in numerous clinical trials as a sub-investigator primarily involved in novel medications for Bipolar Disorder, Depression, and Anxiety Disorders. I also completed Tavistock training at the annual Authority, Leadership and Organisation Conference – Leicester, England, 1991. Psychoanalysis Training was completed at the English branch of the Société Canadienne de Psychoanalyse in Montreal in 1990 where I won the Levin Prize and became a Member of the International Psychoanalytical Society. ![]() I then became a member of the University of Vermont Psychiatry Department where I served as Director of Crisis Services of Chittenden County and Director of the Psychiatry Consultation – Liaison Service advancing to Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry. This was followed by a Residency in Psychiatry at the University of Vermont and Board Certification in Psychiatry in 1986. I completed a Family Practice Residency at the University of Vermont in 1982, served as Chief Resident and became Board Certified 1982 – 1989. I then obtained my medical degree through the University of Illinois, College of Medicine and was a winner of the Richardson Scholarship to study at The National Institute of Neurology at Queen Square, London in 1979. I graduated from the University of Illinois, Urbana- Champaign with a degree in Biology through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in 1975 and was named a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society.
